The Clear-Headed

This head, neck and shoulders massage treatment focuses on the area of the body that is a problem spot for most people. The neck and shoulders are areas where we tend to hold our tension and stress. Sustained postures such as sitting at a desk or computer all day, breast feeding or excessive emotional stress can contribute to muscular tightness and joint stiffness.

This treatment is ideal for people short of time, whether during a lunch break, when the little one is napping or whenever you need some well-deserved ‘me time’ and some pampering. A head, neck and shoulder massage is an excellent treatment to soothe away aches, pains and stiffness promoting a deep sense of relaxation and renewed vitality.

Clear-Headed Massage Techniques

Effleurage is often used when starting or finishing work on an area, or taking a break from intense work. The therapist uses long gliding motions of varying pressure, according to your needs. Effleurage increases circulation, and warms up the tissue. Therapists use fingertips, palms and forearms to perform this technique.

Petrissage involves rhythmically kneading, wringing, or rolling the muscle to access deeper tissue, often while lifting the muscle. This technique brings blood to the area and separates muscles fibers from one another. The alternate squeezing pattern is very relaxing, as it signals the brain to release tension in the area.

Vibration is a less commonly used, but effective, massage technique. The massage therapist loosens your muscles by using the heel of the hand, or the fingertips, to vibrate your muscles, causing them to release and relax. Vibration is used locally, in small areas where a spasm just won’t quit.

Circular frictions are applied using the tips of fingers or thumbs using some pressure and some circular stationary manipulation. The depth of the pressure may be increased gradually over a short series of 3-4 circles before pressure is released and the movement repeated.
